Transport

Pawmetto Lifeline’s Waggin’ Wheels program transports dogs to new homes in the Northeast. Many of the pups we send have been in the Pawmetto Lifeline system for some time and are great dogs, but for whatever reason have been overlooked here. By getting them up north, they get adopted to their forever homes very quickly. Plus, we are able to free more space to save additional dogs from death row here in South Carolina.

Don’t they have dogs up North?

We know what you’re thinking: “Surely they have dogs there.” Surprisingly, because of strict spay and neuter laws, pet overpopulation isn’t a problem in the Northeast like it is here, and many rescue groups there actually have waiting lists for adoptable dogs.

For instance, in 1994 the State of New Hampshire implemented a mandatory state-sponsored spay and neuter law and program that had drastic affects on the State's euthanasia rates.  By the year 2000, New Hampshire reduced their euthanasia rates by 75%. Today in New Hampshire people who want to adopt pets are put on waiting lists for up to a year!

Until South Carolina enacts strict spay neuter laws Pawmetto Lifeline will continue to work with rescue groups in the Northeast and local donors to send pets to states where they may be loved.

About the Transport

At Pawmetto Lifeline, we want to make sure our dogs get the same kind of care during the trip that they get here. After looking at several services, we decided to contract with My Buddy’s Coming Home Pet Transport Service. It’s based out of Middle Georgia and is owned and operated by Randall and Misty Turner. They have worked with animal rescue groups since April 2007 and have personally re-homed several hundred dogs to the New England area. They are committed to providing cost-effective, humane, reliable and licensed rescued dog transport services to safely relocate dogs up north to their anxiously awaiting families. My Buddy’s Coming Home Pet Transport Service uses a modified 34 foot, Class-A Motor Coach to transport dogs in a comfortable, roomy, temperature controlled, “homey” environment.  Each dog travels in an APHIS approved travel crate and is monitored throughout the trip en route to their new homes. Each dog has constant access to water while on the road and is given access to food every 12 hours. They stop every 3 to 4 hours for exercise and potty breaks along the way. Since they are in an RV, the dogs are never left alone.
